Where Does the $2 Billion Go
HealthDataManagement, 03/30/09
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act appropriates $2 billion in "jump start" funding to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. The intent is to provide a near-immediate infusion of federal support to accelerate the adoption of health information technology before substantial Medicare and Medicaid payment incentives start in 2011. Of that $2 billion, the law prescribes $300 million for health information exchange initiatives, $20 million to the National Institute for Standards and Technology to support development of data standards, and $5 million for administration.
