AHA backs FEMA certification proposal

The AHA last week expressed support for a voluntary accreditation and certification program proposed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the private sector. The AHA said the agency should adopt existing preparedness standards such as The Joint Commission Emergency Management Standards and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services conditions of participation, and establish lower-cost options to third-party certification for small businesses, such as critical access hospitals.
