Arevalo JD et al. - HCAHPS is the first national, uniform standard for collecting and publicly reporting information about patients’ hospital experiences that makes valid and objective comparisons between hospitals at the local, state and national level on topics that are important to consumers. According to CMS, public reporting of the HCAHPS survey results is designed to create incentives for hospitals to improve their quality of care and enhance public accountability in health care by increasing the transparency of the quality of hospital care provided in return for the public investment.
