Prognostication in adenoid cystic carcinoma is notoriously inaccurate, given the relatively favorable 5 year survival, but poor long-term survival. Our results indicate that patients alive for more than 10 years had a lower extent of p63 expression than those who died of disease. Our study suggests that quantitative assessment of p63 staining via an automated cell counting approach represents a new modality for predicting clinical outcome in Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.
