The predictive value of testicular ultrasound abnormalities for carcinoma in situ of the testis in men at risk for testicular cancer
International Journal of Andrology, 10/23/09
Elzinga–Tinke JE et al. – TM on scrotal ultrasound of men with risk factors for TGCT and men with clinical signs of testicular maldevelopment has a high predictive value for CIS. However, the predictive value of an inhomogeneous testicular parenchyma, besides TM, for CIS is much higher.

| Testicular ultrasound is indicated in men with risk factors for testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT), such as a history of unilateral TGCT, cryptorchidism, male infertility and in case of testicular atrophy. If scrotal ultrasound shows abnormalities like testicular microcalcifications and an inhomogeneous parenchyma a testicular biopsy is recommended. These men have a risk of carcinoma in situ of the testis of 15% in our studies. |
