Ruella M et al. – The objective was to characterize the role of grafted cells in determining telomere length (TL) after hematopoietic SCT (HSCT). The authors conclude that grafted cells have a major role in determining TL after HSCT.

This is a translation hematology work focused on cell senescence after chemotherapy. We saw a reduced telomere length in PB MNC after autologous transplant and we demonstrated that this was related to the telomere of the stem cells reinfused. Indeed this work has also a value in medical practice because it gives indications to the use of younger cells (exposed to few cycles of chemotherapy) for reinfusion in autologous transplant.
