Recurrent glioblastoma of childhood treated with bevacizumab: case report and molecular features

Zhang W et al. – Childhood glioblastomas show a distinct biological behavior and probably a different molecular pathogenesis in comparison to the adult ones. Understanding the molecular mechanisms responsible for the formation and progression of the tumors is critical for identification of novel therapeutic targets.

| Childhood glioblastoma multiforme is an uncommon brain tumor. Bevacizumab is a novel antiangiogenic agent, which has been reported recently in recurrent GBM. In this paper, we report a case of childhood GBM treated with bevacizumab and investigate the molecular alterations before and after recurrence. This study has determined, for the first time, the correlations of molecular features with clinical outcomes of childhood GBM treated with bevacizumab. Our findings may also have general implications in the cell biology of gliomas. We strongly believe the contribution of this study warrants its publication in Child's Nervous System. |
