Braekkan SK et al. – Hematocrit above the normal population range, such as in primary or secondary erythrocytosis, predisposes to both arterial and venous thrombosis. However, less is known about the association between hematocrit and risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in a general population. The findings suggest that hematocrit and related hematological variables such as hemoglobin and RBC–c represent risk factors of VTE in a general population.
