Parathyroid carcinoma: A rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism

Kung B et al. – Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism. It has been implicated in between 1 and 5% of all cases, and it is difficult to distinguish from parathyroid adenoma, which occurs in 80 to 90% of cases. In this article, the authors describe a case of parathyroid carcinoma, and the authors review the presentation, pathophysiology, and management of this rare disease process.
