Bhattacharya S et al. – Evidences strongly support that therapeutic modulation of 15–LOX–1 may be a key to the treatment of colorectal cancer. However, it is still undecided whether the up–regulation of 15–LOX–1 alone can be sufficient to treat colorectal cancer and further studies are awaited.

Enzymes and products of fatty acid metabolism have been related to many cancers, especially colorectal. In our review article we have shown that modulation of 15-lipoxygenase has improved the prognosis of colon cancers. We might be looking towards a totally new area of cancer treatment. Hence a lot of new research topics may emerge from this field. Interesting areas may be related to enzyme modulation is animal models where one can find a lot of missing links. Our review article is an attempt to highlight these areas and stress the importance of this unique enzyme.
