Freytes CO et al. – Patients with chemosenstive disease recurrence who have completed at least 1 year after their first auto–HSCT should be considered for a second auto–HSCT. Patients who have chemoresistant disease are best served by participation in a well–designed clinical trial examining novel antitumor agents.

This article outlines therapeutic alternatives for patients with lymphoma who relapse after autologous stem cell transplantation. Since relapse is the most frequent cause of failure of autologous transplant, clinicians frequently face this difficult clinical problem. We hope this article illustrates the rationale and results obtained for each of the therapeutic alternatives available to these unfortunate patients.
