Stark B et al. – Outcome of T–ALL MR patients given extended TIT in the context of BFM–based protocols with long–term follow–up appeared to be comparable to studies in which a larger proportion of patients was irradiated, and was associated with low risk of CNS relapse, regardless of the WBC.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Batia Stark, 08/23/09

For childre with T-ALL - good early prednison responders - regardless of their WBC, extended triple intrathecal therapy in the context of the intensive BFM-based protocols did not compromise outcome, and was comparable to studies in which preventive cranial radiation (pCRT) was administered to a wider proprtion of patients. It seems reasonable to exclude pCRT in the majority of T-ALL patients and thereby spare them its long term side effects.
