Serum C-reactive protein as a prognostic indicator in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma
Oral Oncology , 08/19/09
Khandavilli SD et al. - In a study to establish if elevated preoperative levels of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) could predict prognosis of pts treated with primary surgery for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), it was revealed that, using bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis, a raised preoperative CRP was associated with worse overall survival (OS). Tumour size and stage when combined with CRP levels increases predictive power of this indicator.
Methods- 60 pts with oral SCC who were treated by primary surgery and microvascular free flap reconstruction, were included.
- The relation between preoperative levels of serum CRP, clinicopathological features and pt prognosis was determined.
- A raised preoperative CRP was associated with worse OS.
