Height and risk of prostate cancer in the prostate, lung, colorectal, and ovarian cancer screening trial

Ahn J et al. - In a study to determine the association between height and risk of prostate cancer (PCa), results suggest that tallness is associated with increased risk for younger onset, aggressive PCa.

Methods

The association of height with PCa was prospectively examined among 34,268 men.
Anthropometry was assessed at baseline and 2144 incident PCa cases were identified up to 8.9 yrs of follow-up.

Results

Tallness was not associated with risk of PCa or with risk of non-aggressive disease, but risk for aggressive PCa tended to be greater in taller men.
This association was largely limited to men below the age of 65 yrs, although the number of cases was small and risk estimates were somewhat unstable.
