Simon A - According to the World Health Organisation (2002), palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness. The prevention and relief of suffering, the treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual, are aims which determine and motivate the actions of physicians, caregivers and other professionals working in palliative care.
