Qualified health claims for calcium and colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers: The U.S. food and drug administrations evidence-based review
Nutrition and Cancer, 04/07/09
Kavanaugh CJ et al. – This review refers to a health claim petition received by United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003 for calcium supplements and reduced risk of colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers. Article describes how FDA used the evidence-based review system to evaluate the scientific evidence for these proposed health claims and states that FDA found no credible evidence to support health claims for this association. However the agency did find limited evidence for the relationship between calcium intake and colorectal cancer risk.
