Gatzemeier U et al. – Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) pts treated with single-agent IV carboplatin had 20% overall response rate; further trials as single agent or in combination with other chemotherapy or radiation are warranted

Methods

  • Phase II study of IV carboplatin (130 mg/m2 every 4 wk; infusion on days 1, 3, 5) in 51 previously untreated, inoperable NSCLC pts

Results
  • Partial response: 10 pts; minor response, 5 pts
  • Overall response rate: 20%
  • Median duration of response: 3 mo; median overall survival: 4.5 mo
  • Grade 4 thrombocytopenia in 3 (6%) pts
  • WHO grade 3 leucopenia, thrombocytopenia and anemia in 4%–6% of pts; grade 3 nausea and vomiting in 8% of pts
