Honda R et al. – The cisplatin, ifosfamide, and vindesine (CIV) regimen is more effective, especially against squamous-cell carcinoma, but more toxic than the combination of of cisplatin (CDDP) and vindesine (VDS) in NSCLC Methods
Study of 47 pts with unresectable NSCLC treated with CIV regimen: CDDP (100 mg/m2), ifosfamide ([IFX] 2 g/m2 × 3; with mesna). and VDS (3 mg/m2)
CIV administration over a 3- or 5-wk period
Results
Of 40 evaluable pts, 19 partial responses; no complete responses
Response rate of 47.5%: 78.6% in squamous-cell carcinoma and 30.1% in adeno carcinoma and large-cell carcinoma
Toxicity: hematologic, not severe; renal, high
Acute renal failure and death due to subsequent pancytopenia and sepsis in 2 pts
