Marioni G et al. – Nuclear mammary serine protease inhibitor (MASPIN) has an apoptosis-sensitizing effect in laryngeal carcinoma; the tumor-suppressive proapoptotic function may be of clinical use

Methods

  • Study of relationship between subcellular expression of MASPIN, nuclear MASPIN expression, M30 expression, and prognosis in laryngeal carcinoma
  • Immunohistochemical analysis of subcellular pattern of distribution of MASPIN and nuclear MASPIN expression in 66 consecutive cases of laryngeal carcinoma
  • Calculation of M30 expression in correspondent carcinoma

Results
  • M30 expression significantly higher laryngeal carcinomas with MASPIN nuclear localization
  • Carcinoma recurrence rate reduced in patients with MASPIN nuclear localization
  • Disease-free interval significantly longer in pts with nuclear MASPIN localization as noted by log-rank test
