Kosaka T et al. – Papillary renal cell carcinomas (PRCCs) include two distinct morphological types of tumor: type-2 features (large cells and eosinophilic cytoplasm) are less favorable than type-1 (small cells and pale cytoplasm) Methods
Review of 40 cases of PRCC (20 each type), with focus on distinct clinicopathologic difference and response to cytokine therapy
PRCCs classified by Delahunt and Eble criteria
Results
No lymphatic or vascular invasion or distant metastasis in type-1
Nuclear grade was low in all type-1Nuclear grade and positive rate of vascular invasion were significantly higher in type-2
Distant metastasis detected preoperatively in type-2 3 pts
IL-2 therapy response in 1 pt with metastatic type-2 PRCCs
