Hall EJ et al. – A review article reports 20- and 12-fold increase over the past 2 decades in CT use in the US and UK, respectively, with UK use ~ 5 times that in the US. For both countries, most of the diagnostic radiology dose is from high-dose procedures (eg, CT, interventional radiology, barium enemas) with target organ doses in range of an excess cancer risk, although the benefit/risk balance generally favors the pt.
