High salt intake linked directly to stroke, heart disease
Health and Age, 12/08/09
High salt intake is already linked to high blood pressure, which is a potent risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Now researchers have found a direct relationship between high salt intake and stroke and heart disease. They reviewed studies covering over 170,000 people to reach this conclusion on the health hazards of high salt intake. A difference of 5 grams a day in intake means a 23% difference in stroke rate and 17% difference in heart disease rates.
