McNeal CJ et al. - Failure to identify and modify known CVD risk factors early in life misses an important opportunity to prevent the progression of atherosclerosis to symptomatic disease (ie, angina or MI). Prevention of CVD is a priority in women and should be accomplished through lifestyle changes; application of treatment guidelines for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and DM; and appropriate use of aspirin. With better clinician and patient education and further research to clarify gender differences, there should be a significant decline in CVD morbidity and mortality among female patients.
