Increased nitrotyrosine plasma levels in relation to systemic markers of inflammation and myeloperoxidase in chronic heart failure
International Journal of Cardiology, 06/26/09
Eleuteri E et al. – Findings show that an increased nitrotyrosine (NT) plasma level in pts with moderate/severe chronic heart failure (CHF) is associated to increased levels of markers of systemic inflammation.
Methods- Study of the signs of nitrosative stress in serum/plasma of CHF pts
- ELISA tests for quantification of serum/plasma levels of NT, H2O2, total NO, nitrite (NO2-), myeloperoxidase (MPO), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) and pro-brain natriuretic peptide (proBNP)
- Subjects: 66 CHF pts (9 NYHA I, 34 NYHA II, 23 NYHA III) and in 14 age-matched healthy controls
- NT levels higher in NYHA III CHF pts vs NYHA II pts, NYHA I pts, and controls
- NO2- and total NO higher in NYHA III vs NYHA I pts and controls and in NYHA II vs to controls
- NT levels correlated significantly with MPO, TNF alpha, and proBNP
