Association between fibromyalgia and coronary heart disease and coronary catheterization
Clinical Cardiology, 08/27/08
Ablin JN et al. – Coronary angiography is associated with a significantly increased frequency of pain, tenderness, and depression after 6 mo, apparent in both patients undergoing coronary procedures and patients with normal coronaries.
Methods- Aim was to investigate the frequency of Fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms and physical findings among pts undergoing coronary catheterization
- Pts who underwent coronary angiography during the previous 6 mo were recruited
- Pts with major depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, or malignancy were excluded
- Pts underwent dolorimetry for tender-point assessment and completed the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ)
- Group A: Pts with significant coronary pathology
- Group B: Pts with normal coronary arteries
- Group C: Pts with normal controls
- A cardiological score incorporated the number of coronary arteries with pathology and left ventricular function
- Increased levels of tenderness were discovered among pts with coronary pathology vs healthy controls
- Increased levels of depression were also found, as well as higher scores on the FIQ scale
- A positive correlation between tenderness/FIQ scores and a composite cardiological score
