The Department of Health has insisted that the Fair Deal scheme for paying nursing home fees ‘will proceed in 2009.
The scheme was originally launched in December 2006 and was due to come into effect on January 1, 2008. It proposes paying nursing home fees from 80% of a resident’s weekly pension, boosted by a levy on the value of that resident’s estate after their death. This levy can be no more than 15%.
