Papagrigoriadis S et al. – Diverticular disease admissions increased over the course of the study. Patients of increasing age, admitted as emergency and significant comorbidity should be identified, allowing management modification to optimize outcomes.

Our study demonstrates that diverticular disease constitutes a public health problem of considerable magnitude which needs addressing by the health service in an organized way. Guidance on emergency care and post discharge prevention of re-admission is urgently required.
