Harty RF et al. - Stress-ulcer bleeding in critically ill patients develops as a result of various risk factors, notably prolonged mechanical ventilation and coagulopathy. The incidence of clinically significant bleeding is decreasing secondary to widespread use of potent antisecretory medications and improved intensive care.
