Late response to anti-TNF-alpha therapy in refractory mucocutaneous lesions of Behcets disease
Rheumatology International, 12/17/09
Aikawa NE et al. – Behcet’s disease (BD) is a multisystem chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by oral and genital ulceration and ocular involvement. Recurrent oral and genital ulcers are the most common symptoms of BD and occur in more than 80% of patients. The authors reported those patients who were successfully treated with infliximab and adalimumab, despite their late response.

| Recurrent oral and genital ulcerations are hallmarks of BD. These manifestations may cause stress and affect significantly quality of life of these patients. Though anti-TNF agents have been primarily used on severe cases, our results suggest that these drugs may have good results as a therapeutic alternative for harmful recalcitrant mucocutaneous lesions in BD. |
