Low levels of vitamin D in North Indian children with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes
Pediatric Diabetes, 11/12/09
Borkar VV et al. – These results suggest that vitamin D levels are low at the onset of T1D, and they strongly support the need for further clinical studies to prospectively evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on T1D rates in this patient population.
Devidayal, 11/17/09
| Our data augments the evidence accumulated over the past decade that vitamin D plays a significant role in pathogenesis of Type 1 diabetes. It also supports the view that multicenterd trials are urgently needed to study whether incidence of autoimmune diabetes can be lowered by simple vitamin D supplementation. |
