Woldemicael G et al. – The statistical significance of some individual–level measures, such as education means it cannot be used as proxy for women’s autonomy. This calls for policy makers not only to empower women, but also provide them with better formal education.

Policy makers must be aware of the independent effects of women's autonomy on maternal and child health in Ethiopia. This is to say that limiting women's mobility and the extent to which they make economic and other domestic decisions could affect their health-seeking behaviors. However, education and other household level factors such as wealth must be considered when designing policies towards enhancing maternal health policies in Ethiopia.
