Price J – Less than full time training (LTFT) is becoming increasingly popular among British doctors. I took an LTFT post on the grounds of “Category 1A: Those doctors in training with...disability or ill health.”...Mental health concerns are probably more prevalent among doctors than is commonly acknowledged. The author worked hard to make herself heard and earn the LTFT position that would aid my recovery. In future, burnout among medical students and doctors could be avoided more easily if the issue of mental health was discussed more openly and individuals were given the opportunity to reflect on problems in a safe environment. Furthermore, working time directives should be taken seriously by hospital trusts, not only to please medical trade unions but also to increase the chances that doctors enjoy a balanced, healthy, and reflective life.
