The midwife as prescriber
British Journal of Midwifery, 10/07/09
Griffith R – The alternatives to prescription that allow midwives to supply and administer certain medicines to mothers and babies in their care have been outlined in previous articles. The midwives exemptions under the Medicines Act 1968 and the use of patient group directions allow midwives to use a wide range of medicines without prescription. Given the wide scope of these alternatives is there any benefit to midwives becoming non–medical prescribers?
