Horstmann V et al. – Results do not support the hypothesis of a common etiological factor of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and depression.
Methods- Study of co-aggregation of depression in families with FTD, indicating existence of common etiological factors
- Subjects: 74 index pts with FTD and their 540 first-degree relatives age >15 yrs
- Assessment of occurrence of depression at 3 different levels
- Incidence of depression in first-degree relatives of FTD pts not higher than a general population
- Occurrence of depression not higher in families with parents with FTD vs families with parents with no indications of FTD
- FTD pts did not have depression to a greater extent than pts without FTD
