Soh F-S - The Bonghan system is a newly-discovered circulatory system, which corresponds to classical acupuncture meridians and was discovered in the early 1960s by Bonghan Kim. Despite its potential importance in biology and medicine, it has been ignored or forgotten for a long time. Only recently have most of its significant parts, such as the Bonghan system (BHS) inside blood or lymph vessels, on the surfaces of internal organs, and in brain ventricles, been confirmed. For this, novel methods using modern technology were necessary because Bonghan Kim did not describe his methods. For example, Among other methods, the discovery of a BHS-specific dye, trypan blue, was one of the most important original contributions that made BHS observation possible. With this technique, the BHS in adipose tissue became traceable, and the BHS was discovered on the fascia surrounding tumor tissues, a finding which may have great significance in relation to serious health problems in modern society, namely, obesity and cancer.

Cancer Metastasis and Bonghan System (BHS) A new route of metastasis for cancer cells has been found on the fascia surrounding tumor tissue by using the Trypan blue staining method. We are currently studying metastasis of cancer through BHS. Tracing of cancer cells was done with near infrared imaging after electroporation of quantum dots into cancer cells. It turned out that more cancer cells were moving through the BHS than lymphatic vessels. The liquid flowing in the BHS can play important roles in the tumor growth as it contains hyaluronic acid, adrenalin/noradrenalin hormone, albumin, and microcells (or sanals). On the other hand, a possible control of tumor growth by acupuncture can be envisioned because the BHS on the tumor surface is an extension of acupuncture meridians and collaterals. Obesity and BHS The Trypan blue staining method was effective in detecting BHS inside adipose tissues. Fats are subjects of wide interest because obesity is a major health problem in developed countries as the cause of diabetes or cardiovascular disorders. Discovery of the presence of BHS network in adipose tissues urges researchers to investigate the roles of Bonghan system with respect to obesity.
