Methods- Review of the management of hypertension in acute stroke
- Hypertension common seen in an acute stroke setting
- Although hypertension is the most important modifiable risk factor for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, immediate management of elevated blood pressure in this setting is controversial
- Key questions: when to start lowering blood pressure; by how much to lower pressure; which pharmaceutical agents to use; whether to continue or stop previous antihypertensive medications
- Recent pilot studies may serve as a foundation for larger definitive studies
