Ability of Amiodarone and Propranolol Alone or in Combination to Prevent Post-coronary Bypass Atrial Fibrillation
Cardiovascular Drug Reviews, 11/13/09
Kojuri J et al. – Age was a significant predictor of post–CABG AF. Other factors such as diabetes, sex, hyperlipidemia, smoking, hypertension, family history, cerebrovascular accidents, left atrial size, and ejection fraction were not significant predictors of post–CABG AF. Preoperative amiodarone or amiodarone with propranolol were more effective than propranolol in reducing the frequency of AF. There was a strong relationship between age and the development of AF.

| Use of propronalol is class I indication for prevention of post CABG AF. propronalol can not be used in every patient especially in those with low catdiac output state and contraindication for use of inderal. This study showed that amiodarone my be more effective substitude for propronalol in prevention of post CABG AF. |
