Co-expression of Hif1alpha and CAIX is associated with poor prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma patients
Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine, 09/29/09
Eckert AW et al. – A co-detection of low Hif1?/CAIX expression is significantly correlated with a better prognosis for OSCC patients, which may have implications for therapy options for these patients.
Methods- Statistical analysis of immunohistochemical results
- Clinical parameters including survival outcomes
- 80 OSCC patients
- Patients with low expression of both proteins survived average 54.8 months
- Increased expression of Hif1? in tumors combined with low expression of CAIX survived on average only 37.6 months
- In multivariate Cox's regression hazard analysis, patients with low expression of Hif1?/CAIX had best prognosis
- Patients with increased Hif1? and low CAIX expression carried 4.97-fold increased risk of tumor-related death
