Mendis D et al. – A 32–year–old man developed a choking sensation while eating chicken chow mein, which he was unable to finish. His partner noticed the presence of a string–like substance in his oropharynx. Both the patient and his partner attempted to retrieve it, but they were not successful. Still in some distress 6 hours later, the patient presented to the Accident and Emergency Department and was subsequently referred to the ENT service. Earlier in the week, the patient had been seen and discharged from the ENT outpatient clinic after being evaluated for a suspected scratch to the pharyngeal wall mucosa following a fish meal.
