Plasma osteopontin levels in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy
Archives of Otolaryngology, 09/01/09
Snitcovsky I et al. – In patients with HNSCC undergoing chemoradiotherapy, a low pre-treatment plasma OPN level is associated with tx response and better survival.
Methods- Prospective study
- Plasma OPN levels before and within 12 weeks after tx in 69 patients with HNSCC undergoing platinum-based chemoradiotherapy
- Pre-treatment OPN levels were higher in patients with advanced T and N stagesw compared with patients with early stages
- Pre-treatment and post-treatment levels of OPN were lower in patients who achieved a CR compared with those who failed to respond (75.0 vs. 131.2 ng/ml) and (86.8 vs. 141.6 ng/ml)
- Patients with high tre-treatment OPN levels had shorter survival time
