Chennupati SK et al. – Burkitt lymphoma is a high–grade B–cell non–Hodgkin lymphoma that accounts for 3 to 5% of all lymphomas. There is a marked difference in prevalence between children and adults; in immunocompetent patients, Burkitt lymphoma accounts for approximately 40 to 60% of all cases of non–Hodgkin lymphoma in children versus only 1 to 2% in adults. 2,3 Burkitt lymphoma is one of the most rapidly progressive tumors in humans, with a doubling time of approximately 24 hours. Epidemiologically, Burkitt lymphoma exists in three distinct but related forms–endemic, sporadic. and immunodeficiency–associated. The endemic form is the most common.
