A critical review of tracheostomies

Handa PS - 271 tracheostomies were performed in 2 years at Safdarjang Hospital, New Delhi. Injuries of head and neck constituted largest number of cases followed by tumours of this region, Diphtheria, Tetanus etc. Complications of the operation like pneumothorax, surgical emphysema, haemorrhage, secondary infections of lungs were observed in a small percentage of the cases.
