Oral and plunging ranulas: What is the most effective treatment
The Laryngoscope, 06/08/09
Patel MR et al. - Definitive treatment yielding lowest recurrence and complication rates for all ranulas is transoral excision of the ipsilateral sublingual gland with ranula evacuation.
William W. Shockley, 06/08/09
| It appears that for oral and plunging ranulas transoral removal of the sublingual galnd is the preferred treatment. Marsupialization for oral ranulas is still a reasonable first line modality but the recurrence rates are higher. The cervical approach for plunging ranulas can generally be replaced by tranoral excision of the sublingual gland along with evacuation of the ranula. |
