Kamath MP et al. - The masticator space is an important suprahyoid tissue compartment. The suprazygomatic portion of the masticator space is superficial and accessible to clinical assessment, while the nasopharyngeal masticator space is deep and can be adequately evaluated only by imaging studies. The authors report a case of an abscess in the infratemporal fossa that occurred secondary to a dental infection in a woman with uncontrolled diabetes.
