Chang CY et al. - Spasmodic dysphonia is a well-described entity that affects the laryngeal muscles. It is characterized by either strained/strangled voice breaks or breathy voice breaks. Other variants of spasmodic dysphonia include respiratory, tonic, and mixed types. Regardless of the specific type of spasmodic dysphonia, the mainstay of treatment is injection of botulinum toxin type A into the affected laryngeal muscles.
