Fiadjoe JE et al. - The Storz Miller 1 VL blade improved glottic exposure in a simulated difficult laryngoscopy compared with direct laryngoscopy with a standard Miller 1 blade without increasing the time to intubation.

Exclusive Author Commentary
John E. Fiadjoe, 05/28/09

Our study evaluated laryngoscopy grade and intubation time using the Storz Miller 1 video laryngoscope as compared to a standard Miller 1 laryngoscope in an infant manikin model. We found improved grades and improved intubation success with comparable intubation times. This study is the first step in evaluating this device in infants, we are currently working on a human study in neonates and infants. Evaluation of new video laryngoscopes in infants and neonates is important because many devices that perform adequately in older children often perform poorly in infants because of anatomical differences.
