Demographic, epidemiologic, and surgical characteristics of maxillofacial fracture repair in a developing country
ENT Journal, 04/21/09
Ozgursoy OB et al. - Maxillofacial injuries occur in a significant proportion of patients who are severely traumatized. The epidemiologic characteristics of these injuries have changed over time, and they continue to do so. It has been reported that the incidence, etiology, and pattern of maxillofacial fractures vary from one country to another in terms of the age and sex of patients and the cultural, environmental, and socioeconomic status of the population. Maxillofacial fractures are usually treated with open or closed reduction followed by immobilization of the fragments via either internal or intermaxillary fixation.
