Singhal, D., et al. - Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis is a non-invasive fungal lesion (i.e. the fungus has not invaded host tissue) that represents an allergic hypersensitivity response to the presence of extramucosal fungi. The fungi lie within the sinus cavity, but do not penetrate the mucosal lining into host tissues. It is increasingly recognised as a type of Hypertrophic Sinus Disease that clinically and immunologically appears to be analogous to Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis
