Age-related fat deposition in multifidus muscle could be a marker for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Journal of Gastroenterology, 11/09/09
Eguchi Y et al. – The MM/F ratio was closely related to aging and visceral fat accumulation. The MM/F ratio was improved by weight reduction, indicating that fat accumulation in the multifidus muscle evaluated by computed tomography might be a therapeutic indicator of NAFLD.
Yuichiro Eguchi, 11/12/09
| We demonstrated the relationship between the muscle steatosis and not only aging and abdominal obesity but also the hepatic steatosis. In this study, we focused on the multifidus muscle which is shown in abdominal computed tomography. In the previous study, the determinations of muscle steatosis have been used magnetic resonance spectroscopy and muscle biopsy. Our method in this paper is easier than previous methods, because the umbilical slice in abdominal computed tomography which is performed for the mandatory examination for the evaluation of a visceral fat accumulation. Now, we are exploring several new studies for the association between muscle and liver diseases. Please give us your comments and suggestions. |
