Preserved Inhibitory Potency of GLP-1 on Glucagon Secretion in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Hare KJ et al. – The diabetic alpha–cell appears to be highly sensitive to the inhibitory action of GLP–1 both during high and near–normalized PG levels, but responds with a short, nevertheless significant delay.

In contrast to the deceased responsiveness of the diabetic beta cells to GLP-1 this study shows that alpha cell responsiveness is preserved, further the potency of the inhibitory effect of GLP-1 was found to be independent og the prevailing plasma glucose levels in the examined patients with type 2 diabetes.
